love triangle, schmove schmiangle

allow me to put my hating cap on real quick, for jules et jim is not on point.

there's a love triangle going on here between jules jim and catherine. and they're all idiots.

Jim: congratulations Jules on your new life and marrying the girl of your dreams.
Jules: she no longer likes me, you want her?
Jim: ok.

Catherine: please come over.
Jim: but you're married to my best friend Jules and you pulled a gun on me last time.
Catherine: but i'm really lonely.
Jim: ok wait right there.

the one highlight for us was when catherine serenades her men. even though her diddy's in french, it translates into english while still maintaining its rhyme scheme. best part by far.
J&J had some ill coats too. as do most of the male leads in the Criterion thus far.
we'll see how this compares to our next selection which is also from the land of france, band of outsiders. a bien tot.

this posting is long overdue, and to be forewarned, most likely inaccurate and superfluous seeing that I haven't watched Jules et Jim in several years.

but here goes nothing.

i think you boys are in need of some serious female perspective on this one. has it occured to you to do a little role reversal here? imagine you're a pre-WWI vagabond (mustache, derby, bicycle in toe) and you are swept up by two passionate, attention-deprived ladies who want nothing more in this world than to worship you. sound appealing? i thought so.

fast forward to one of the most classic scenarios in film history. the classic, in my opinion. truffaut defined the all time number one mind-f*** of a twenty-something's sexual existence. the love triangle is a cliche, yes, but at the time it could not have been more scandalous and original. it was the sixties, and free love was here to stay. (wouldn't that have been nice?)

these 3 don't make sense. the plot doesn't make too much either. i will give you that. but oh, i don't know. maybe i just have a soft spot for b&w french cafes and the 'ol steam engine trick.
